On the 11th of October 2017, the Ambassador of San Marino to Vietnam, H.E. Massimo Ferdinandi, has been accredited as the first Ambassador of the Republic of San Marino to the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The beginning of the diplomatic relations with their representing Association and the continuation of a positive dialogue with all ASEAN State Members is one of the priorities of the development of the diplomatic relations of the Republic of San Marino.

Since its formation, on 8 August 1967, by Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, the Organization membership has expanded to include Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.Its principal aims include accelerating economic growth, social progress and sociocultural evolution among its Members.

ASEAN is an official United Nations Observer.
